Yimiao Liu

Fine artist, Yimiao Liu, is known for her brilliant attention to color, organic form, and surrealist style. I designed an event poster that previews and promotes Liu's work by creating an inspired experimental typeface. It not only captures Liu’s work but it demonstrates a strong understanding of type design and how to make a strong visual impact through typography.

I began my design journey by researching Liu’s creative practice and analyzing her work. I gathered visual research and paid attention to the shapes and colors she uses. I manipulated assets from her work in Illustrator and turned them into letterforms. I arranged these letter forms onto my poster and pulled design elements from Liu’s work. I finished the poster in Photoshop by adding textures that make it feel more hand-done.
