Moths of Idaho

ACADEMIC|April-May 2023 3 weeks

Moths of Idaho is an informative booklet featuring three Idaho moth species. I was responsible for the entire art direction and creation of this booklet. I focused on creating well-designed layouts incorporating illustrations from my Illustrating Science course. My final deliverable is a physical stab bound with a handmade cover. This project showcases traditional bookbinding accompanied by modern book design.

The process began with research and planning, where I selected three Idaho moth species to focus on and gathered reference materials. I created digital illustrations using Procreate and scanned textures from scrap paper, editing them in Photoshop to integrate into the design. Finally, I laid out the book in InDesign, ensuring proper text alignment, printed the pages, and bound the book by hand using the stab binding method, finishing with a hand-drawn cover.
