MayBe

MayBe is a prototype of a game, using Figma, that explores dating in the city of Seattle. It's inspired by the film Singles (1992), where multiple individuals from Seattle struggle with commitment, self-discovery, and relationship dynamics.
My goal was to create a world around the existing narrative of the film but shift the audience's perspective. I created nonhuman characters as a way to eschew the very real experiences the game simulates. MayBe offers a thought-provoking yet playful experience of what it’s like dealing with commitment issues and realizing self-importance. This project was a great opportunity for me to hone my Figma skills, game flow design, and interactive storytelling.
I started by watching the movie Singles to understand its portrayal of Seattle’s dating scene and gathering inspiration for character development and narrative themes. I created a mood board to define the visual style and atmosphere. I used Figma to prototype the game, focusing on nonhuman characters and building an intuitive game flow. I got tons of feedback from my peers and professor throughout the entire process, which was extremely helpful for a project like this. I responded to the challenges of worldbuilding by integrating Seattle’s iconic landscapes, liberal social climate, and the emotional complexities of dating, ensuring the design was both engaging and reflective of the city’s unique culture.
